Consistently providing great content to your audience can be challenging. However, there are ways to make it easier.

The key to engagement (likes, views, comments and followers) is good image composition. A well composed image stands out in a user’s feed and creates allure. We’ve seen hundreds of thousands of lettering and design posts. The ones that consistently get the best engagement are workspace and work in progress posts. They create a real life relatability that draws the audience in. Introducing the viewer into a workspace makes them feel included in the designing process and more likely to like or comment. Creating a scene in which to place your design will result in better engagement.
Of course it goes beyond just posting a shot of your messy desk or scrappy notebook. A couple of general rules:
- Good lighting is essential
- Solid contrasts and bright colours grab attention
- Physical objects (pens, phone, keyboard, etc) create relatability

It might be creatively beneficial to set up a mini photo shoot for your work every so often, but not everyone has the necessary space or time to do so. Welcome to the wonderful world of prebuilt mockups. There are some amazing resources out there that will let you create a bright and engaging composition, you just need access to photoshop. Don’t stress if you are a photoshop beginner, you’ll just be arranging items and following documentation. These are some of our favourite mock up packs:
I am Creator / Trilogy
This one is our favourite. It has an absolutely enormous library of elements, scenes and textures to choose from. The whole pack is very versatile. Fantastic for sprucing up your Instagram posts, also great for adding design mock ups to client presentations and portfolios.
Frame Mock Up Bundle
If you plan to sell prints of your work, you definitely need this pack. While not as versatile as the previous two, the pre built scenes are glorious. You’d need to use this one sparingly though, an Instagram feed full of framed prints might be a bit full on.
Custom Scene Planner Edition
This one has a nice feminine touch to it and a great variety of pre made scenes. If you like the flat lay style this is the pack to get. We prefer this pack for creating a workspace style image.
It's ok to be lazy, just don't get lazy
It’s not a problem to utilise tools to save time, but digital mockups shouldn’t be your only form of content. If all your posts have the same elements or general layout, chances are people are going to figure out your little ruse. Vary the type of posts you do and the compositions you create. Try pairing your design with a certain type of aesthetic or texture. Vary your compositions, experiment with colour, go forth and cheat your way to success.
